"Looking back on my time with these incredible boys and girls, I am so proud of what they achieved, and so grateful for the relationships i have formed with them.  Of course, there were those times when the goings got rough, and it appeared our efforts were for naught, as some of the boys and girls would become distracted.  Yet in the wake of these discouraging events the dreamers would rise, often as a class, to meet the math challenges that faced them.
One of my new friends had struggled with basic addition at the beginning of the summer, but now he has moved on to full scale algebra.  Another could never comprehend the ideas of multiplication; now he can ace all his multiplication tables and has moved on to bigger and harder concepts. "I attend Menlo High School, an academic environment where many students, including myself, often take a quality education for granted.  However, I have seen the students at this program eager to learn and  apply the appositive phrase, excited to write a horror story in class, smile at the anticipation of a game of softball out on the playground, and laugh when I tell them of stories from when I was once in seventh grade and learning algebra for the first time.  I learned that these students truly appreciate the importance of an education, and furthermore, each and every one of them want to take advantage of their opportunities and continue to learn and mature in their futures." -Dana Tom, volunteer
